Egypt: Egypt is considering establishing centers for issuing electronic seals and digital signatures across the country's governorates to facilitate services for government employees and reduce costs, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Speaking at the inauguration of an upgraded data center at the government electronic certification authority, Kouchouk highlighted the government's aim to enhance digital services and ensure operational continuity during emergencies through a backup electronic signature exchange center.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this initiative is a part of Egypt's wider digital transformation strategy. The strategy focuses on improving services for citizens and investors, while also enhancing the security of government electronic transactions. The head of the government electronic certification authority, Mohamed El Badry, mentioned that the upgraded center would bolster several key government systems. These include the Nafeza foreign trade platform, electronic payment and collection systems, and digital services used by prosecution offices, courts, and the New Capital.
The government electronic certification authority is the sole entity authorized to issue electronic signature certificates for government employees. This authority operates under a license granted by Egypt's Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
