Cairo: The Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) discussed ways to strengthen cooperation on climate action, adaptation, mitigation and resilience-building in Egypt. The talks between agency CEO Sherif Abdel Rahim and FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa AbdulHakim Elwaer also covered climate finance and innovative mechanisms to attract investment, with a focus on programs backed by global funds such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Green Climate Fund (GCF).

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdel Rahim said cooperation with FAO would support Egypt's climate agenda, including its 2050 National Climate Change Strategy, circular economy and nature-based solutions. The projects discussed include protecting coastal ecosystems and northern lakes, promoting climate-smart agriculture, improving waste management and expanding renewable energy, in line with Egypt's updated nationally determined contributions (NDCs).
