Egypt and World Bank Explore Cooperation on Smart Cities and Green Buildings

Cairo: Egypt's Minister of Housing, Sherif El-Sherbiny, met with a World Bank mission to discuss potential cooperation in integrated land management, smart cities, and green building initiatives, as announced by the Ministry in a statement. The meeting included senior officials from the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, as well as Almud Weitz, the World Bank's Regional Practice Director for Infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa region.

According to State Information Service Egypt, El-Sherbiny detailed Egypt's National Smart Cities Strategy, which is currently in its first phase in several new cities. He emphasized efforts to upgrade existing urban areas, reflecting the country's commitment to green and sustainable urban development. The government aims to enhance smart city management, bolster institutional frameworks for sustainable growth, and attract more residents and investors to these new cities through various incentives and investment opportunities.

The World Bank delegation presented proposals to expand cooperation in areas such as social housing, land and urban management, and potential financing for projects that align with Egypt's transition to smart city administration.
