Luxor: The Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, welcomed renowned economist and thinker Professor Jeffrey Sachs at his residence in Al-Qurna, Luxor Governorate. The meeting took place on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the encounter was marked by a cordial exchange of views on pressing global developments, with a particular focus on the challenges facing the region. Dr. Al-Tayeb expressed his appreciation for Professor Sachs's balanced perspectives and writings, particularly concerning Gaza and Palestine. The Grand Imam highlighted Sachs's understanding of the universal message of religions, which advocates for the support of the oppressed, irrespective of faith, gender, or ethnicity, and promotes coexistence grounded in equality, rights, and human dignity.

Professor Jeffrey Sachs conveyed his joy and honor in meeting the Grand Imam, commending Dr. Al-Tayeb's courageous efforts to advance global peace and human fraternity. Sachs emphasized that the Imam's voice is one of truth and humanity and urged the world to heed his vision.
