Cairo: Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam and Rwanda's Minister of Environment Bernadette Arakwiye attended the closing session of the joint steering committee meetings for the Water Resources Management and Irrigation Project, where the two sides signed an executive action plan to carry out a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministers reviewed the results of two days of meetings, including agreements on next steps under the MoU and field visits to proposed project sites. During these visits, committee members engaged with key stakeholders and discussed the practicalities of implementing the projects.
The memorandum of understanding, originally signed during Rwandan President Paul Kagame's visit to Egypt on September 23, 2025, outlines several development projects aimed at addressing Rwanda's water needs. These projects include initiatives in watershed protection, well drilling, rainwater harvesting dams, drinking water supply, capacity-building programs, and technical exchanges between Egyptian and Rwandan experts.
