Egypt and Qatar Advocate for West Bank-Gaza Link to Enhance Palestinian Unity

Cairo: Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, have emphasized the need for a connection between the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip to maintain Palestinian territorial unity and enable self-governance. In a phone call, the ministers addressed developments in the West Bank, expressing their disapproval of Israeli settlement activities and "repeated violations" that could hinder peace efforts and escalate tensions.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the conversation also covered the situation in Gaza, with both parties highlighting the importance of ongoing coordination between Cairo and Doha to support initiatives aimed at solidifying the ceasefire. They discussed the progress from the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace and the implementation of the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. Additionally, they considered discussions in New York about the potential deployment of the International Stabilization Force (ISF), emphasizing the need to clearly define the force's mandate and powers to aid in Gaza's recovery and reconstruction.

The call also touched on the crisis in Sudan, with Abdelatty affirming Egypt's support for Sudan's unity and stability, condemning the atrocities in El-Fasher. He advocated for establishing a humanitarian track to ensure aid delivery and called for joint efforts to achieve a ceasefire and a political process that aligns with the aspirations of the Sudanese population.

Lastly, the ministers discussed the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and Qatar, expressing their commitment to expanding cooperation in investment, trade, and economic sectors. They acknowledged Qatar's new investment package in Egypt, including the Alam El-Roum real estate project, as part of efforts to enhance Qatari investment in key sectors.
