Egypt and Iraq Discuss Preparations for Upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad

Baghdad: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Iraq Fuad Hussein on Sunday to discuss preparations for the 34th Ordinary Arab Summit scheduled for May 17 in Baghdad. Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast support for Iraq's security and stability.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the progress in Egyptian-Iraqi relations across various sectors in recent years and emphasized the importance of continuing joint cooperation programs to deepen bilateral ties. These efforts aim to serve the interests of the two brotherly nations and promote mutual advancement.

The ministers discussed cooperation in key areas, including electrical interconnection, infrastructure development, counterterrorism, capacity building, and boosting Iraqi tourism to Egypt. They also explored ways to encourage Egyptian companies to expand their presence in Iraq across various sectors while promoting mutual investment and enhancing trade exchange.

Ambassador Khallaf added that the talks also addressed preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad on May 17. The ministers reviewed progress in joint projects between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan under the tripartite cooperation mechanism. Regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza, were also discussed.

The ministers exchanged views on efforts to reinstate the ceasefire, mobilize support for the Arab plan to reconstruct Gaza, and Egypt's upcoming international conference on early recovery and reconstruction efforts. Further discussions included the latest developments in Syria and Lebanon, as well as broader regional dynamics.

Both ministers emphasized the need for continued collaboration to achieve security and stability throughout the Arab region.
