Cairo: Hamas announced that its negotiating delegation is set to arrive in Egypt on Tuesday to further discussions on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. According to Anadolu Ajansi (AA), the delegation will engage with Egyptian officials and mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Trkiye, alongside Palestinian factions and forces.

The primary objective of these talks is to solidify the ceasefire and ensure the commitments made in Sharm el-Sheikh are honored, particularly concerning the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the transition to the next phase of the plan initiated by US President Donald Trump. Hamas emphasized the importance of these talks in addressing the dire conditions in Gaza.

Israel's military actions in Gaza, which began on October 8, 2023, with US backing, have resulted in significant casualties, with over 73,000 Palestinians killed and more than 174,000 injured. Despite the ceasefire, effective since October 10, 2025, hostilities have continued with Israel conducting daily assaults, leading to further casualties as reported by Gaza's Health Ministry.

The ceasefire agreement has been undermined by Israel's restrictions on essential supplies, creating severe hardships for the 2.4 million Palestinians residing in Gaza, including 1.5 million displaced individuals. Hamas has expressed that while it has adhered to its initial commitments, including the release of Israeli captives, Israel has not reciprocated, continuing its military actions and limiting humanitarian aid.

The proposed second phase of the agreement involves a more extensive Israeli military withdrawal and the commencement of reconstruction efforts in Gaza, in exchange for the disarmament of Palestinian factions. The implementation of these terms remains stalled as Israel demands disarmament as a prerequisite.
