Cairo: Egypt has taken a significant step towards enhancing its renewable energy sector by signing a $200 million deal with China to localize the manufacturing of energy storage batteries. Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat concluded his productive visit to China by meeting with Kinrex officials, a prominent player in the fields of energy storage cells, technologies, and batteries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on the strengths of the Egyptian market and the country's strategic energy plans, which include a transition towards renewable energy sources. The discussions underscored Egypt's commitment to supporting local industry, transferring and localizing technology, and expanding the manufacturing of electrical equipment and supplies. The collaboration aims to substitute imported goods with domestically produced products, particularly in the field of energy storage battery cells.
The strategic agreement witnessed by Dr. Mahmoud Esmat marks a pivotal moment for Egypt's energy sector. It involves establishing an integrated battery manufacturing plant utilizing local raw materials, forged between Egypt's Kemet and China's Krenex Group. The agreement was formalized by Engineer Ahmed El-Abd, Chairman of Kemet, and Dai Deming, Chairman of Krenex Group.
The deal outlines the creation of a factory dedicated to producing electrical energy storage battery cells. It also focuses on the transfer and localization of manufacturing technology, utilizing local raw materials and necessary processing industries to produce batteries. The facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 5000 megawatt-hours, with total investments reaching $200 million.
