Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb have signed the minutes of the ninth session of the Egyptian-Algerian Joint Higher Committee, marking a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between Egypt and Algeria. The signing took place in Cairo, where the leaders also witnessed the signing of multiple agreements and memoranda across diverse sectors aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ceremony, held at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, included a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on accreditation signed between the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) and the Algerian Accreditation Body (ALGERAC). The signing was attended by representatives from both countries, with Egypt represented by Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry, and Algeria by Minister of Industry Yahia Bashir.
The agreements spanned various sectors, including housing, urban development, and city planning, with Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania El-Mashat signing for Egypt, and Minister Mohamed Tarek Belaribi for Algeria. In agriculture, an MoU was signed between Egypt's Agricultural Research Center and Algeria's National School of Agricultural Engineering, with Mashat and Minister Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid representing their respective countries.
In the education sector, an MoU was signed between Egypt's Al Azhar University and Ahmed Draia University in Adrar, Algeria. Additionally, parliamentary and legal cooperation were also solidified through an MoU between Egypt's Ministry of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs and Algeria's Ministry of Parliamentary Relations.
Youth and sports cooperation received a boost with the signing of an executive program for youth cooperation for 2026-2027, while the cultural sector saw an MoU between Egypt's Ministry of Culture and Algeria's Ministry of Culture and Arts for 2025-2028. Further cultural exchanges were formalized between Egypt's National Cultural Center at the Cairo Opera House and Algeria's Boualem Bessah Opera House, as well as between Egypt's General Authority of the National Library and Archives and Algeria's Centre des Archives Nationales (CAN).
Local development, trade, and investment were also key areas of focus, with MoUs signed to promote participation in international exhibitions and markets. Additional agreements covered financial dialogue, energy transition, renewable energy, technical and vocational training, social affairs, consumer protection, and public administration.
These agreements underscore the robust collaboration between Egypt and Algeria across political, economic, cultural, and social domains, paving the way for a strengthened partnership in the years to come.
