Cairo: Egypt is taking strategic steps to enhance its domestic ammunition production, aiming to lessen its dependence on imports. This initiative is part of a broader effort to fortify the nation's defense manufacturing capabilities, according to Minister of State for Military Production, Major General Salah Suleiman Gomblat. Gomblat shared these insights during a meeting with leaders of companies affiliated with ammunition production, held at the ministry's headquarters in the New Capital.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on evaluating the progress of ammunition supply contracts, reviewing current production plans, and discussing strategies to increase manufacturing capacity. Gomblat emphasized the importance of developing the local ammunition production sector as a strategic priority, which is essential for supporting local manufacturing and bolstering Egypt's self-sufficiency in meeting its defense needs.
The minister highlighted the necessity of modernizing production lines, optimizing the use of existing manufacturing capabilities, and enhancing the skills of specialized personnel. He instructed companies to adhere to strict quality and efficiency standards throughout the production process. Additionally, the ministry is focused on localizing modern technologies and increasing the use of domestically produced components to minimize reliance on foreign imports.
Gomblat also stressed the importance of collaboration among affiliated companies to improve production and make optimal use of available industrial capacity. The minister encouraged ongoing workforce training and the adoption of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, where applicable. These measures, he noted, would support the growth of Egypt's defense industrial base, satisfy domestic demand, and create opportunities for exports.
Furthermore, Gomblat ordered regular monitoring of production and supply contracts to ensure adherence to schedules and prompt resolution of any manufacturing issues.
