Cairo: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, affirmed that Egypt supports all Palestinian rights to establish an independent state and the right to self-determination, stressing the need to halt Israeli hostilities in Lebanon and Syria to prevent the region from sliding into a comprehensive confrontation.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in his address before a session held Thursday 19/2/2026 by the United Nations Security Council on the Middle East and the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty said that Egypt aspires to a safe and stable Middle East and calls for confronting all Israeli measures aimed at displacing the Palestinian people, declaring Egypt's firm rejection of any attempts to liquidate the cause.
He called for facilitating the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip, noting that Egypt demands that work at the Rafah crossing not be obstructed and that it continue operating on both sides to ensure the flow of humanitarian relief to the Palestinian people in the Strip.
He also stressed the need to stop violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement in order to restore calm.
Regarding Cairo's vision for arrangements in the upcoming phase, Abdelatty explained the need to accelerate the deployment of an international stabilization force in Gaza, pointing to the necessity of implementing U.S. President Donald Trump's plan for the Gaza Strip as a path toward a solution. He added, 'We stress the necessity of rebuilding the Gaza Strip.'
He also emphasized the need to support the work of the national committee for administering the Gaza Strip, stressing that weapons must be placed under a single Palestinian authority, and called for launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Strip.
Abdelatty condemned Israel's illegal and illegitimate measures in the West Bank, considering the occupation's actions there to be inconsistent with all international resolutions and conventions. He affirmed that Egypt demands a halt to Israeli occupation measures to annex the West Bank, adding that Egypt stresses the necessity of Palestinian territorial unity and rejecting the separation and division of its lands.
The foreign minister noted that responsibility for implementing the terms of the ceasefire agreement rests with all parties, calling for an end to Israeli violations and for enabling members of the Palestinian national committee for administering the Strip to enter and manage its daily affairs across all its areas during the transitional phase.
