Cairo: Cairo University President Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadeq honored 23 student athletes who achieved outstanding results in African and international sporting competitions, reaffirming the university's commitment to academic and athletic excellence.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the ceremony, held at Ahmed Lotfy El-Sayed Hall, was attended by senior university officials, including Dr. Ahmed Ragab, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Hanan Mohamed Ali, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science; Farag Eid, Director of Youth Welfare; and student union president Bassem El-Gohary.

In his address, Abdel-Sadeq praised the athletes for their role in showcasing Egypt's capabilities on regional and global platforms, describing their achievements as a source of pride for both the university and the nation. He emphasized that Cairo University views student activities and sports as integral to developing well-rounded graduates, adding that the institution is committed to discovering and nurturing talent through comprehensive support programs.

Abdel-Sadeq also announced full scholarships for students who represent Egypt in international and continental competitions, recognizing them as inspiring role models for the university community.

The honored athletes achieved high rankings across diverse disciplines, including rowing, basketball, karate, kayaking, bowling, lifesaving, table tennis, judo, athletics, fencing, and speedball. Their achievements ranged from global podium finishes to top African and Arab titles, highlighting the breadth of sporting excellence fostered at Cairo University.

Vice President Dr. Ahmed Ragab commended the athletes, drawing parallels between their accomplishments and Egypt's ancient legacy of sporting excellence, which dates back thousands of years and is recorded on the walls of temples and tombs. He noted that these achievements reflect the university's long-standing tradition of producing exceptional talents across academic and extracurricular fields.

The recognition of these 23 athletes underscores Cairo University's broader strategy of integrating sports, culture, and academics to build a vibrant, competitive, and future-ready student community.
