Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty asserted that Egypt was always proud of its Arab and African identity, noting that the overwhelming joy expressed by Egypt's Arab and African brothers following the national team's victory over Australia in the FIFA World Cup reflects the deep bonds and shared ties that unite Egypt with its Arab and African partners.
According to State Information Service Egypt, these remarks were made by the Minister in response to a MENA question on the widespread celebrations that swept across the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories after Egypt's World Cup victory last night, as well as similar celebrations witnessed in numerous Arab and African capitals and cities and among Arab and African communities in Egypt.
Speaking during a joint press conference on Saturday, July 04, 2026, with EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka €š¬…¡¬¦ uica, Abdelatty said that the Egyptian people celebrate the successes of all their Arab and African brothers and share in their sorrow whenever hardship befalls any of those countries.
He stressed that these natural feelings reflect the close bonds among Arab and African nations and their peoples, adding that they all share a common destiny, a shared history, common hardships, and common aspirations.
Abdelatty said he was deeply moved and extremely happy to see Egypt's brothers celebrating its joy and sharing its sorrow. He noted that this was not surprising, as the Egyptian people hold the same sentiments toward their brothers across the region and Africa whenever any Arab country achieves a distinguished accomplishment.
He added that what he witnessed filled him not with surprise but with great happiness. He stressed that through solidarity and mutual support, much can be achieved, emphasizing that no Arab or African country can face today's challenges alone and that unity remains the greatest source of strength.
