Cairo: Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Minister Osama El-Azhari emphasized the necessity for contemporary Islamic jurists to expand their expertise across various disciplines to effectively address the needs and challenges of modern society. El-Azhari, speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly at a seminar focusing on fatwas and humanitarian realities, highlighted that sound religious rulings should integrate profound understanding of Islamic law with modern sciences to better serve society and uphold the objectives of Islamic Sharia.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt's Mufti Nazir Ayyad elaborated on the scholarly responsibility of fatwas, emphasizing their foundation in comprehending human realities rather than making abstract judgments isolated from context. Ayyad stated that the core mission of fatwas is to protect human dignity, safeguard society, and promote balanced awareness. He highlighted the essential role of institutional fatwas, especially in the face of global conflicts, humanitarian crises, and rapid digital transformations.
Ayyad noted the significant contributions of Egypt's Dar Al-Ifta during emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic and in addressing major humanitarian issues, including the Palestinian cause. He also addressed the increasing importance of responsible digital fatwas to steer public awareness and maintain core values in an era characterized by fast-paced information flow.
