Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Minister of Supply and Domestic Trade Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Mr. Alaa Eldin Farouk, and Executive Director of 'Egypt's Future Authority for Sustainable Development' Colonel Dr. Bahaa El-Ghannam to discuss preparations for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions were focused on ensuring the availability of high-quality food commodities at affordable prices during Ramadan. Minister of Supply Dr. Sherif Farouk confirmed the availability of essential goods and highlighted discounts of 15% to 25% offered at 'Ahlan Ramadan' exhibitions. Additionally, he noted that 2.5 million Ramadan boxes and bags have been prepared for distribution.
President El-Sisi stressed the importance of continuous monitoring of commodity availability and adherence to announced prices, warning that price inflators would be held accountable. He instructed the use of market control mechanisms to prevent price hikes, especially for poultry, to stabilize the market and ease the burden on citizens during the Holy Month.
In an effort to unify consumer complexes and supply outlets, President El-Sisi approved the 'Carry On' national project. He also called for continued coordination among authorities to ensure the efficiency of the supply system and the proper targeting of subsidies.
The meeting reviewed food security developments and strategic reserves for essential commodities. President El-Sisi directed efforts to maintain and strengthen these reserves and called for achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural crops, livestock, and poultry through modernization and inter-ministerial cooperation.
The discussions included activating the Commodity Exchange to enhance food security and ensure fair pricing. The President emphasized leveraging Egypt's potential as a regional logistics hub for strategic commodities, aiming to improve the country's economic standing. The meeting concluded with a commitment to ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Supply and Domestic Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and the 'Egypt's Future Authority for Sustainable Development' to achieve food security goals.
