Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly extended his thanks to the Interior Ministry and its affiliated bodies across the governorates for supporting government efforts in enforcing removal orders for illegal encroachments along both banks of the River Nile, stressing that effective coordination among all relevant authorities is essential to resolving this issue decisively and safeguarding state assets. This came during a meeting held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, to follow up on the implementation progress of efforts to confront encroachments and protect the Nile's watercourse.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was attended by Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Hani Sweilam, Local Development Minister and Acting Environment Minister Manal Awad, Assistant Interior Minister for the Security Sector Sherif Raouf, along with senior officials.
Sweilam reviewed the latest developments of the national project to safeguard the River Nile, noting that the project aligns with the state's strategic vision to protect Egypt's lifeline, preserve water resources, ensure their sustainability, and reinforce the river's pivotal role in water security and sustainable development.
The meeting reviewed the status of ongoing efforts to remove encroachments along the Nile's banks to protect the watercourse and safeguard national water resources, noting that all violations are being cleared according to urgent priorities.
It also reviewed the inventory of encroachments along the Nile and its two branches, alongside the progress made in demolishing illegal structures, removing backfilling activities within the watercourse, and marking river management lines on the ground.
Participants were further briefed on the production of updated digital maps of the Nile's bed and banks, a key step toward providing accurate and essential data for effective water management.
