PM Meets Director-General of FAO in New Administrative Capital

Cairo: Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly met with Dr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), during the opening of the 3rd Global Conference of FAO Representatives. The meeting was attended by Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs; Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation; Mr. Alaa El-Din Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation; and several FAO officials.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Madbouly welcomed Dr. Qu and expressed appreciation for choosing Egypt to host the conference, which includes over 130 representatives from around the world. This choice underscores Egypt's strategic role in the region and its active support of FAO initiatives.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the long-standing partnership between Egypt and FAO, emphasizing their shared goal to eradicate hunger by 2030. He highlighted Egypt's efforts in agricultural and rural development, food security, and other areas aligned with national priorities. Dr. Madbouly reiterated Egypt's commitment to support the Director-General's visit to ensure its success.

Dr. Madbouly mentioned the Egyptian state's initiatives to achieve food security under the 'Egypt 2030' vision, including the Action Plan for Sustainable Agricultural Development 2030, the National Food Strategy, and the 'Hayah Karima' initiative. He noted the ongoing cooperation with the FAO and the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development.

Dr. Qu Dongyu expressed appreciation for FAO's cooperation with Egypt and acknowledged Egypt's role as a founding member of the organization. He discussed FAO's efforts to support food security goals and tackle international challenges affecting food security. Dr. Qu praised Egypt's support in helping neighboring countries affected by crises, such as the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Badr Abdelatti expressed eagerness to collaborate with FAO to support food security, particularly in providing assistance to the Gaza Strip and Sudan. He also highlighted the election of Mr. Mina Rizk as Chair of the FAO's Executive Council, the first Egyptian to hold this position.

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat discussed enhancing cooperation with FAO through bilateral and triangular cooperation, and Mr. Alaa El-Din Farouk affirmed Egypt's desire to strengthen bilateral ties with the organization.
