Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Masad Boulos, Senior Adviser to US President for Arab and African Affairs, affirmed their pride in the longstanding partnership between Egypt and the United States and their commitment to continuing to develop it in various fields. This could be particularly at the economic, trade, and investment levels, in a manner that reflects the unique nature of bilateral relations and serves the aspirations of the Egyptian and American peoples.

According to State Information Service Egypt, this affirmation came during a phone call held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, between Abdelatty and Boulos as part of ongoing consultations between Egypt and the United States. The call addressed the strategic bilateral relations between the two countries, developments in the Sudan crisis, and the situation in Libya, as well as ways to achieve security and stability in the two brotherly countries.

The two sides discussed ways to advance the strategic relations between Egypt and the United States, enhance cooperation and coordination across various fields, and build on the momentum witnessed in bilateral ties in a manner that serves their common interests.

Regarding Sudan, the two sides reviewed ongoing efforts and contacts aimed at halting the escalation and addressing the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation. The foreign minister stressed the need to build on current efforts to end the conflict and ensure unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

Abdelatty reiterated the importance of preserving Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, safeguarding its national institutions, and rejecting external interference that could prolong the crisis or complicate efforts to resolve it. The minister noted that ending the Sudan crisis requires, in parallel, launching an inclusive political process under Sudanese ownership and leadership that preserves state institutions and responds to the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Regarding the situation in Libya, the phone call addressed ways to create the necessary conditions for achieving progress in the political process and end the state of division. Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt's efforts are guided by the priority of preserving Libya's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, stressing the importance of keeping the political process exclusively Libyan-led.

Abdelatty noted that holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously represents a key step toward restoring stability. He also underscored the importance of integrating regional and international efforts in support of the political process, in a manner that helps Libyans reach a sustainable settlement reflecting their will and preserving the unity of the state and its institutions.
