Bern: Egyptian Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania al Mashat emphasized the importance of the Egyptian-Swiss Joint Economic Committee, stating that its convening signifies both nations' dedication to boosting economic, trade, and investment relations and exploring new market opportunities.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Mashat made these remarks while chairing the inaugural meeting of the Joint Economic Committee between Egypt and Switzerland. This meeting, held at the technical level, took place in Bern and included representatives from the ministries of foreign affairs, finance, investment and foreign trade, labor, as well as the Central Bank.
The committee serves as a vital platform for enhancing bilateral relations and creating new investment opportunities. Attendees included representatives from the business community and private sector companies from both countries.
Mashat noted that the meeting followed the signing of an economic cooperation agreement between Egypt and Switzerland at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January. She stated that the committee offers a chance to tackle challenges obstructing the progress of bilateral economic relations and to review and update existing economic agreements for better implementation.
Furthermore, Mashat pointed out the significant growth in Egypt-Switzerland relations. She highlighted that Egypt is Switzerland's largest trading partner in Africa, with over 100 Swiss companies investing in a variety of sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, and logistics services.
