Petroleum Ministry Invites US Partnerships to Expand Operations in Africa

Cairo: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi announced that Egypt is poised to serve as a gateway for US companies aiming to expand their operations throughout Africa. Egypt's petroleum sector is fully prepared to form partnerships with these companies to facilitate their African ventures.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Badawi made this statement during his participation in the session titled "Partnerships to Strengthen Egypt's Regional Leadership and Secure Future Energy Needs" at the "Egypt-US Policy Leaders Forum" for 2025, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce. In his presentation, Badawi outlined the strategic focus of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, emphasizing that Egypt maintains strategic partnerships with 57 international petroleum companies.

The session saw participation from notable figures, including John Chrismann, President of Apache Corporation and Chairman of the Egyptian-American Business Council, as well as heads of international petroleum companies operating in Egypt, leaders from the petroleum sector, and members of both the American Chamber of Commerce and the Egyptian-American Business Council.

Badawi highlighted that several US companies are already active in Egypt's petroleum sector, contributing significantly to its achievements. He noted Egypt's well-established infrastructure in oil, gas, and mining, which is the product of sustained efforts over many years. The minister underscored the importance of adding value to Egypt's petroleum and mineral resources and the ongoing initiatives to reduce reliance on fossil fuels while increasing renewable energy contributions.

He emphasized the vital role of human resources in the sector's success, advocating for a strong culture of occupational safety and health. Environmental conservation initiatives, in collaboration with foreign companies and international organizations, are being implemented to reduce emissions at petroleum sites.

Badawi expressed gratitude to petroleum sector employees for their dedication and mentioned ongoing seismic surveys in the Western Desert and the Gulf of Suez aimed at boosting Egypt's oil and gas reserves. He also highlighted the private sector's crucial role in development goals, innovation, and technology provision, calling for comprehensive support for private companies involved in major oil projects.

John Chrismann of Apache Corporation remarked on the company's longstanding presence in Egypt, spanning over three decades, and identified Egypt as a key operational area globally. He acknowledged recent progress in the Egyptian oil sector, praising the political leadership and government's commitment to reforms and transformative change. Chrismann expressed optimism about the future of the gas sector in the Western Desert and Apache's ambition to further tap into Egypt's gas potential.
