Petroleum Minister Emphasizes Teamwork at CPYP Meeting

Cairo: The Coordination of Party's Youth and Politicians (CPYP) hosted Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, for an extensive meeting with its members. During the session, Badawi reviewed recent developments in the petroleum and mining sectors, highlighting the state's plans to boost production, attract investments, and maximize the value of Egypt's mineral resources. He emphasized that teamwork and integration among state institutions are crucial for achieving success and sustainable development.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Badawi began the meeting by praising the Mineral Resources Law introduced by the CPYP, describing it as a significant advancement for the mining and mineral industries. He stated that the law would elevate the mining sector's contribution to Egypt's gross domestic product (GDP) from 1% to 6%. The minister reiterated that genuine success is the result of collaborative efforts and cooperation among various stakeholders rather than the accomplishment of a single individual.

Badawi commended the CPYP for its role in fostering dialogue on national issues and enhancing communication between state institutions and young people. He explained that the ministry operates under a strategy focused on serving Egyptian citizens and ensuring their energy needs are met. He acknowledged that the sector's recent achievements were made possible through the dedicated efforts of its workforce and ongoing collaboration with state institutions, including the Senate, House of Representatives, cabinet, relevant ministries, and both Egyptian and foreign investors.

The minister addressed the sector's challenges, noting that focusing on key priorities has positively impacted overall performance. He highlighted that the accumulation of overdue payments to foreign partners in previous years adversely affected investment and production levels, coinciding with rising domestic energy consumption driven by economic growth.

Badawi outlined the ministry's current priorities, which include securing energy needs by increasing domestic production, maximizing the use of existing infrastructure through expanded refining and petrochemical activities, and launching a new phase for the mining sector to enhance its value. The ministry also aims to contribute to Egypt's optimal energy mix, improve safety, environmental protection, and energy efficiency, and strengthen regional cooperation, such as the importation of Cypriot natural gas to Egypt.

He stressed the importance of integrating the petroleum, electricity, and renewable energy sectors to achieve a balanced and sustainable energy mix. Expanding renewable energy, he explained, would reduce reliance on natural gas while laying the foundation for producing green derivatives, particularly green hydrogen. Badawi noted that Egypt has strong potential in the petrochemical and fertilizer industries, which would bolster energy security and enhance the value of Egyptian exports. He concluded by mentioning that indicators from relevant authorities reflect improved sector performance and renewed confidence among investors and international partners.
