New Valley to Host Egypt’s First Phosphate Applied Technology School

Cairo: Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi and New Valley Governor Hanan Magdy witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and Misr Phosphate Company to establish Misr Phosphate Applied Technology School, the first school of its kind nationwide.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the protocol was signed by Deputy Minister of Education for Technical Education Ayman Bahaa El-Din and Misr Phosphate Company Chairman and Managing Director Nasser Shaheen. The event was attended by New Valley University President Abdel Aziz Tantawy and members of the House of Representatives and Senate.

Badawi stated that the establishment of the Misr Phosphate International Applied Technology School aligns with changes in the mining sector and the growing demand for technically skilled personnel. He emphasized the importance of investing in human capital to achieve the goals of developing the mining sector and maximizing the added value of Egypt's mineral resources.

Magdy acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Misr Phosphate Company in supporting development efforts and investing in training specialized technical personnel. She highlighted that the initiative aligns with political directives to expand applied and technological education programs to meet labor market needs. The new school is expected to enhance the governorate's education system by linking education with practical training and employment opportunities.

Magdy further explained that the school will be integrated with the phosphoric acid production project at the Abu Tartour Plateau, allowing students to benefit from both theoretical and practical education. She noted that New Valley is home to one of the world's largest phosphate ore reserves.

The school aims to optimize the governorate's resources, improve educational outcomes, and align them with labor market needs. It will specialize in mining and operate under an integrated technological complex and dual education system for three years. Graduates will receive a diploma and an accredited certificate of experience after completing the required practical training.

The school is set to commence operations in the 2026/2027 academic year. Magdy also presented the governorate's strategic vision and resources to explore opportunities for joint cooperation, supporting plans and projects that advance comprehensive and sustainable development in New Valley.
