Giza: Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad received a report on the final preparations in Giza ahead of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)'s opening, which President Abdel Fattah el Sisi will inaugurate this evening in the presence of world leaders and dignitaries. Awad said that the development works around the museum are part of a comprehensive plan to turn the area into a modern and attractive destination.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministry focused on upgrading main roads, improving lighting, renovating building fa§ades, organizing signage, removing encroachments, and expanding green spaces to enhance the area's appearance and environment. She affirmed that the goal is to create a welcoming setting for visitors that reflects Egypt's rich history and modern progress, in line with the state's plan to present the museum as a global cultural landmark.
The report detailed that development covered a 7.5-kilometer stretch from Al-Remaya Square to Hazem Hassan Tunnel at a total cost of EGP 232 million under the 2023/2024 investment plan. Works also included reinforcing and repaving the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, installing new lighting, building rainwater drainage systems, and removing 330,000 tons of waste from the surrounding area.
