Cairo: The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, a 64.5 percent increase in the number of Egyptians sent abroad on scientific missions in 2025.According to State Information Service Egypt, "Egyptians Sent Abroad and Returning from Scientific Missions, 2025," the total number of researchers and scholars dispatched on scientific missions reached 612 in 2025, up from 372 in 2024. The agency reported that a total of 1,342 individuals were sent abroad on scientific missions during the 2022-2025 period.Ain Shams University ranked first among Egyptian universities during the four-year period with 105 delegates, followed by Cairo University with 74, Alexandria University with 63, Assiut University with 44, and Benha University with 28. The remaining 1,028 delegates came from other universities and scientific institutions.Regarding the academic objectives of the missions in 2025, CAPMAS stated that 162 delegates (26.5 percent) were pursuing master's degrees, while 142 (23.2 percent) were pursuing doctoral degrees. The bulletin added that 96 delegates (15.7 percent) were assigned for training programs, 83 (13.6 percent) for postdoctoral scientific missions, 68 (11.1 percent) for scientific data collection, and 61 (10.0 percent) for research projects.In terms of fields of study, practical disciplines accounted for 543 delegates, representing 88.7 percent of the total, while theoretical disciplines accounted for 69 delegates, or 11.3 percent.
