Four Egyptian Ministers Discuss Future of AI at Cairo University Conference

Cairo: Four ministers participated in a session on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Egypt, held at Cairo University as part of an international AI conference. The session aims to enhance the national approach to AI in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that AI is central to improving the quality of life and must be considered essential infrastructure. He cautioned about potential economic losses if global workers fail to adapt to AI advancements and stressed the importance of AI in enhancing human roles.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat highlighted significant investments in digital infrastructure, noting that Egypt now ranks among the fastest internet providers in Africa. He detailed the country's updated AI strategy, which includes open data policies, privacy safeguards, and support for 250 AI startups over the next five years.

Higher Education Minister Ayman Ashour stated that AI needs to be integrated across all academic disciplines. He mentioned new university guidelines for the ethical use of AI and training programs that combine innovation with AI to prepare students for future industries.

Labor Minister Mohamed Gobran spoke on the rapid changes in the labor market, with many traditional jobs disappearing. He mentioned that a national committee is working to define future skill needs while the ministry is expanding vocational training programs and partnerships to prepare youth for AI-related careers.

The session concluded with a call for coordinated national action to integrate AI across sectors while ensuring the workforce is prepared to meet emerging demands.
