Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud have reaffirmed their condemnation of the repeated Iranian attacks targeting a number of fellow Arab states.According to State Information Service Egypt, the remarks came during a phone call on Monday, July 20, 2026, between the two ministers as part of ongoing consultations on regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's full solidarity with the Gulf states and Jordan, stressing that the attacks constitute a violation of state sovereignty and a threat to regional security and stability. He underscored the need for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions and any practices that could fuel tensions, widen the scope of escalation, or threaten the security of Arab countries.The two ministers also stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, ensuring the safety and security of international shipping, preventing any disruption to maritime traffic, and rejecting attempts to impose restrictions on passage through international waterways, given their impact on the global economy and energy security.They also exchanged views on regional efforts aimed at de-escalation and discussed the role of the regional quartet comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan as an important platform for consultation, coordination, and support for initiatives to contain tensions and promote security and stability in the region.They also agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation on regional issues of mutual concern, including regional security challenges, in a way that supports regional peace and stability.
