Foreign Minister Highlights Strengthening Ties with Uganda

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised the growing momentum in bilateral relations with Uganda during his meeting with Henry Okello, Uganda's State Minister for Foreign Affairs. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 'Invest in Uganda Forum,' held in Cairo in cooperation between the Ugandan Embassy and the Egyptian African Businessmen's Association.According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of the third round of ministerial consultations held at the beginning of April. These consultations involved ministers of foreign affairs, water resources, and irrigation, aiming to advance political and economic relations between the two countries. Abdelatty underscored the importance of strengthening trade, economic, and investment cooperation, particularly in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, water resource management, and pharmaceuticals.The foreign minister highlig hted the significance of cooperation regarding the Nile River, advocating for mutual benefit and shared interests. He called for upholding the spirit of consensus among sister countries in the Southern Nile Basin and emphasized the need to restore inclusivity within the Nile Basin Initiative. Abdelatty also commended Uganda's efforts during its chairmanship of the consultative process of the Nile Basin Initiative and the steps approved by the initiative's ministerial council to foster inclusivity and consensus.The exchange between the two ministers also covered ways to establish stability, security, and peace in the African continent, focusing on regions such as the Horn of Africa, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Great Lakes region. Both sides agreed to enhance coordination at bilateral and multilateral levels, aiming to build on the existing political and developmental momentum to support mutual interests and stability across Africa.
