Egypt and Eritrea Explore Strengthening Economic and Trade Ties

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid met with Eritrean President's Economic Adviser Hagos Ghebrehiwet and Eritrean Minister of Trade and Industry Nasreddin Saleh to discuss boosting bilateral cooperation.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between Egypt and Eritrea in economic, investment, trade, industrial, and development sectors. Abdelatty expressed Egypt's commitment to strengthening these ties, emphasizing the support for Eritrea's national development efforts and mutual aspirations.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's full backing for Eritrea's sovereignty and unity, highlighting the importance of leveraging high-level visits to improve trade and joint investments. He also mentioned Egypt's readiness to offer technical support in key sectors and promote Egyptian private sector participation in Eritrea.

Farid highlighted the potential for deepening investment and trade partnerships, noting the opportunities within the Eritrean market. He emphasized the importance of business community engagement in both countries to foster joint investments and trade exchanges, and the role of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement in facilitating exports.

The discussions also covered regional issues, including developments in Sudan, with both parties agreeing on the importance of maintaining Sudan's unity and supporting its national institutions. Security challenges in the Red Sea were also addressed, with a call for littoral states to take responsibility for its security and stability.
