FM Stresses Unity of Palestinian Territories During Call with Cypriot Counterpart

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty emphasized the unity of the Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, during a phone call on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. He reaffirmed Egypt's stance against any measures that might perpetuate the division between these regions or hinder the progress towards a two-state solution, advocating for an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty's statements were made during a conversation with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos. This exchange is part of ongoing discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and sharing perspectives on regional matters of mutual interest. Foreign ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf noted that Abdelatty underscored the longstanding and close ties between Egypt and Cyprus, expressing a desire for continued cooperation, particularly as Cyprus is set to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in early 2026.

Abdelatty highlighted the importance of building on the outcomes of the Egyptian-European Summit held in Brussels on October 22, and praised the success of the recent Egyptian-Cypriot Summit. He emphasized the need for joint efforts to activate and implement memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between the two nations. The focus was placed on collaboration in the energy sector, including connecting Cypriot gas fields to Egypt, and enhancing economic and investment cooperation, trade exchange, and tourism.

The minister also stressed the importance of quickly implementing the memorandum of understanding related to employing Egyptian labor in Cyprus and expanding it to other sectors. The spokesperson mentioned that Abdelatty and Kombos exchanged views on regional issues, with a primary focus on the Palestinian situation. Abdelatty reiterated the need for international accountability in implementing the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement and the recent UN Security Council resolution concerning Gaza.

Further, Abdelatty called for efforts to solidify the ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid delivery, initiate early recovery and reconstruction, and encouraged international participation in an upcoming conference hosted by Egypt. He also briefed Kombos on the situation in Sudan, reiterating Egypt's support for Sudan's security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
