Vienna: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Susanne Raab, Director General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), on Thursday, July 16, 2026, on the sidelines of his visit to Vienna.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty praised the existing partnership between the Egyptian government and ICMPD, noting it reflects a shared commitment to strengthening coordination and expanding cooperation on migration. He also expressed appreciation for ICMPD's support for several projects in Egypt under the Migration Partnership Facility.
Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt adopts a comprehensive approach to migration, addressing humanitarian, political, security, and development dimensions. He stressed the priority Egypt attaches to promoting safe and regular migration pathways, particularly labor mobility to European markets, in a manner that serves mutual interests and meets labor market needs.
Abdelatty also reviewed the significant burdens borne by Egypt as a result of hosting millions of refugees, asylum-seekers, and migrants, who receive basic services and enjoy their rights on an equal footing with Egyptian citizens. He said Egypt's policy is based on non-discrimination, which places growing economic and development burdens on the state. He also stressed the importance of refugees and asylum-seekers regularizing their status in accordance with national laws and regulations.
He underlined the importance of activating the principle of burden- and responsibility-sharing at the international level. He said this would help mobilize further support for national development programs and joint initiatives, while ensuring the sustainable provision of services to refugees, migrants, and host communities as part of a balanced approach linking development requirements with effective migration governance.
