FM Hopes for Enhanced Ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina

Barcelona: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed his hope for continued efforts to strengthen relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina in different domains, citing the long-standing historical ties between the two countries. The comments came during Abdelatty's meeting with Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic, held on the sidelines of the Union for the Mediterranean ministerial gathering.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed the desire to host his Bosnian counterpart in Cairo and to activate a political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries. He emphasized expanding cooperation in diplomatic training and advancing economic and trade cooperation. Abdelatty highlighted the importance of closer coordination between the two countries' chambers of commerce and the establishment of a joint business council to explore opportunities for boosting trade and investment, particularly in renewable energy, transport, tourism, agriculture, and education.

Abdelatty outlined the promising opportunities offered by the Egyptian economy, especially in light of incentives extended to foreign investors in priority sectors. He emphasized Egypt's strategic location as a gateway to European, African, and Asian markets, as well as the country's ability to provide trained and skilled labor.

The discussions also addressed the growing tourism flow between the two sides, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on joint tourism promotion in August 2025. Abdelatty stressed the need for direct flights between Cairo and Sarajevo to enhance mutual tourism.

Both ministers exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including developments in the Gaza Strip, the importance of implementing the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza, and progress on the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan. Abdelatty reaffirmed the need for the International Stabilization Force to carry out its mandate to consolidate the ceasefire and reviewed ongoing preparations for the upcoming international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.
