Doha: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with EU envoy for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber to explore strategies for enhancing security, stability, and development in the Horn of Africa region.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting occurred during the Doha Forum in Qatar. Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the strengthening Egypt-EU relations, highlighting the significance of the first Egypt-EU summit on October 22 as a pivotal moment for cooperation. He emphasized the importance of leveraging the summit's outcomes to advance the six pillars of strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU.
During the discussions, Abdelatty highlighted the urgency of achieving a ceasefire in Sudan and initiating a political process that maintains the country's unity and stability. He referred to his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11, advocating for cohesive regional and international support for the Sudanese people and institutions, particularly through the International Quartet framework.
The minister also stressed the need for an effective humanitarian channel to ensure seamless aid delivery. He reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to bolstering security and stability efforts in Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa. Additionally, Abdelatty reviewed the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, underscoring the critical need for funding to support its mission against terrorism and in fostering stability.
