Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty expressed Cairo's anticipation for enhanced coordination with the US administration and both houses of Congress to advance mutually beneficial bilateral relations. Abdelatty's comments were made during a meeting with Republican Senator Tim Sheehy, a member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, to explore ways to bolster the Egypt-US strategic partnership, as well as ongoing cooperation across political, economic, military, and technical domains.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions emphasized Egypt's interest in expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation with the US. Abdelatty spotlighted the positive outcomes from the Egyptian-US Economic Forum held in Cairo on May 25-26, which saw significant participation from major US companies. He also informed the US senator about Egypt's initiatives for Middle Eastern security and stability, underscoring the essential role of the Egypt-US strategic partnership in these efforts.
The dialogue included a shared perspective on regional issues of mutual concern, notably Egypt's stance on developments in Gaza. Both sides discussed ongoing cooperation with the US and Qatar to achieve a ceasefire agreement and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected area. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's opposition to the displacement of Palestinians. The meeting also addressed the positive outcomes of de-escalation efforts in the Red Sea region and their implications for maritime security and international trade.
