Cairo: Egypt stressed on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the need for a temporary Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the daily affairs of residents in the Gaza Strip during phone call between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.
According to State Information Service Egypt, FM Abdelatty and Fidan discussed efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and move forward with the next phase of a US-backed plan.
The two ministers also underscored the importance of forming an international stabilization force per UN Security Council Resolution 2803, ensuring the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts, according to the statement.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's rejection of any measures that could undermine the unity of Palestinian territory, including ongoing Israeli violence and violations in the West Bank.
The ministers also discussed the Horn of Africa and expressed firm opposition to Israeli recognition of the breakaway region of 'Somaliland.'
Abdelatty said such recognition violates international law and the UN Charter and threatens regional and international peace and security. He reaffirmed Egypt's full support for Somalia's unity and sovereignty and its rejection of any unilateral actions that could destabilize the country.
The talks also covered developments in Sudan, where Abdelatty stressed the need to work toward a humanitarian truce that would lead to a comprehensive ceasefire, while safeguarding Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity and supporting its national institutions.
