Cairo: Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat emphasized the significance of the El Dabaa Nuclear Plant in securing Egypt's energy needs for the foreseeable future, highlighting the project as a cornerstone of Egyptian-Russian relations. Esmat made these remarks during Russia's National Day celebrations at the Russian embassy in Cairo.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Esmat acknowledged the historic and robust ties between Egypt and Russia, which have been characterized by decades of constructive cooperation across multiple sectors. He noted that the relationship between the two nations has reached an unprecedented level of development, driven by a shared vision and mutual respect for national sovereignty and common interests.
Esmat elaborated on the comprehensive and sustainable development partnership that has evolved between Egypt and Russia, covering a wide array of sectors such as industry, transportation, tourism, education, and trade. He expressed optimism that this longstanding partnership will continue to advance, benefiting the peoples of both countries.
He further described the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant as a significant milestone and a landmark achievement, positioning it as a catalyst for technological and industrial development in Egypt. The project, he noted, not only supports Egypt's energy security but also facilitates knowledge transfer and the development of young Egyptian talent in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.
Esmat likened the El Dabaa project to the Aswan High Dam, which symbolized Egyptian-Soviet friendship in the previous century, suggesting that the nuclear plant now stands as a new emblem of the deep-rooted partnership between Egypt and Russia in the 21st century. He highlighted that the project, executed by the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, reflects the strategic and strong nature of bilateral relations, embodying the shared vision of the leaderships of both nations.
