Muscat: Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Ambassador Ehab Fahmy and Assistant Foreign Minister and Head of the Arab Department at the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Sheikh Faisal Al-Marhoon co-chaired the first round of Egyptian-Omani political consultations, held in Muscat on February 4 and 5.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Fahmy emphasized that the establishment of this consultation mechanism reflects the shared commitment of Egypt and Oman to enhance consultation and coordination on regional and international issues. The consultation mechanism is pivotal for both nations to de-escalate regional tensions and promote dialogue and peaceful solutions, thereby supporting national institutions and ensuring the unity and sovereignty of states amid complex regional challenges.
Ambassador Fahmy noted that these consultations, the first at the level of Assistant Foreign Ministers for Arab Affairs, provided an opportunity to assess the progress in implementing outcomes from the Egyptian-Omani Joint Committee's previous session in Cairo in July 2025. This included reviewing high-level visits such as Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir's visit to Oman in December 2025, and the visits of Dr. Badr Abdelatty and Mr. Badr Al-Busaidi between January 2025 and January 2026.
The discussions during the consultations focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and linking ports and logistics zones to strengthen economic partnerships and achieve industrial integration, aligning with the political leadership's directives in both countries.
On the sidelines, Ambassador Fahmy met with Ambassador Sheikh Khalifa Al-Harthi and other officials to exchange assessments on regional developments. Both sides praised the convergence in positions and the ongoing coordination between Egypt and Oman at all levels.
