Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The call was part of ongoing efforts to enhance consultation and coordination between Egypt and Qatar, focusing on reinforcing bilateral relations and discussing regional issues of mutual interest.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized the strong fraternal bonds between the two nations, highlighting the positive developments in Egyptian-Qatari relations at various levels. He praised the cooperation across different sectors that benefit the people of both countries and expressed a commitment to further advancing these cooperative efforts to serve shared interests.
The conversation included discussions on the situation in the Gaza Strip, where both officials reviewed the progress of implementing the second phase of the U.S. President's plan. They highlighted the importance of forming a temporary Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the Strip's affairs alongside establishing an international stabilization force, as per UN Security Council Resolution 2803. They also stressed the necessity of ensuring humanitarian aid delivery and creating conditions for early recovery and reconstruction.
Developments in Sudan were also on the agenda, with Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt's dedication to the Quartet Mechanism in pursuing a humanitarian truce leading to a comprehensive ceasefire. He highlighted the need to uphold Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as supporting its national institutions. The importance of providing safe corridors, ensuring humanitarian aid delivery, and protecting civilians was also underscored.
Additionally, the ministers condemned Israel's unilateral recognition of the Somaliland region, stating that it violated Somalia's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and contravened international law.
