Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from Tanzania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahmoud Thabet Kombo to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on issues of common interest across the African continent.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Tanzanian Foreign Minister conveyed greetings from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, expressing Tanzania's appreciation for the tangible progress in Egyptian-Tanzanian relations. Minister Abdelatty commended the growing momentum in these bilateral ties and emphasized the commitment to enhancing cooperation in economic, investment, trade, and development sectors to support Tanzanian national development efforts.
The conversation highlighted the progress in economic and development relations between the two countries, with both ministers recognizing the Julius Nyerere Dam project as a successful model of strategic partnership and developmental integration. The Tanzanian minister lauded the expertise of Egyptian companies in Tanzania, acknowledging their significant role in major national and development projects.
The call also touched upon preparations for the African Union's mid-year coordination summit, set to be hosted by Egypt in June 2026 in El Alamein. Both ministers underscored the importance of continued coordination and consultation on issues affecting the African continent to bolster integration and development efforts.
Regarding water security, Minister Abdelatty emphasized the need for cooperation and integration in the Nile River to achieve mutual benefits. He highlighted the importance of consensus and brotherhood to restore inclusiveness in the Nile Basin Initiative while rejecting unilateral actions. He welcomed positive developments in the initiative's consultative process, aiming for mutual benefit for all Nile Basin countries.
