Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from the French Minister of Foreign Affairs on Friday 8/5/2026. During the call, the two top diplomats discussed ways to strengthen the strategic relations between Egypt and France, as well as regional developments and means of de-escalating tensions in the region.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers praised the growing momentum in Egyptian-French relations, especially after their elevation to a strategic partnership level. They highlighted the significant growth in trade volumes and cooperation across various fields. The French Foreign Minister welcomed the imminent opening of Senghor University in Borg El Arab City, symbolizing the Egyptian-French partnership.
The French Foreign Minister commended Egypt's efforts to contain regional escalation and received a detailed explanation from Minister Abdelatty regarding Egypt's initiatives in this domain. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of diplomatic solutions and reiterated Egypt's support for the negotiating track between the United States and Iran, which aims to promote de-escalation and political solutions.
The conversation also touched upon the developments in the Gaza Strip. Minister Abdelatty underscored the importance of completing all requirements of the first phase of the US President's plan and commencing the second phase's implementation.
