Alexandria: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Senegalese Minister of Foreign Affairs Cheikh Niang have lauded the inauguration of the new Senghor University campus in Alexandria. The new campus is seen as a significant stride in fostering Egyptian-African educational and academic collaboration.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers convened on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on African issues. Abdelatty emphasized the increasing momentum in Egyptian-Senegalese relations, referring to Senegal as a key strategic partner in West Africa.
The discussions also centered on enhancing political coordination in regional and international forums, with a focus on water security and cross-border cooperation. The Egyptian Minister reiterated Cairo’s commitment to supporting Senegal’s development plans and expressed readiness to share expertise in areas such as infrastructure, energy, irrigation, and land reclamation projects.
Both ministers underscored the importance of ongoing coordination to bolster security and stability across Africa, particularly in addressing terrorism challenges in West Africa and the Sahel region.
