President El-Sisi Receives French President Macron at Senghor University HQ Inauguration


Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron for the official inauguration of the new Headquarters of Senghor University. The event marked a significant moment in Egyptian-French relations, with both leaders engaging in discussions to enhance bilateral ties.



According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the spokesman for the Presidency, stated that President El-Sisi greeted President Macron upon his arrival, followed by a commemorative photo and an expanded session of talks attended by delegations from both countries. President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of the visit, highlighting the strong Egyptian-French friendship and the progress achieved in bilateral relations since elevating their partnership to a strategic level in 2025. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, education, industry, and transport to benefit both nations and strengthen ties between Egypt and the European Union.



President Macron expressed his delight at visiting Egypt and congratulated President El-Sisi on the inauguration of the new university headquarters, which he described as a landmark in academic and cultural cooperation among La Francophonie member states. He reaffirmed France’s commitment to advancing cooperation across various fields, emphasizing the significance of trade exchange and French investments in Egypt.



The meeting addressed regional developments, with President El-Sisi discussing Egypt’s efforts to contain tensions and prevent further escalation. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to the security and stability of Arab nations and rejected any infringement on their sovereignty. President Macron praised Egypt’s efforts and expressed hope for a swift resolution to restore peace in the Middle East.



Discussions also included the Palestinian cause, where President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s role in solidifying agreements to end the Gaza conflict and emphasized the importance of humanitarian aid and reconstruction. He expressed concern over West Bank violations and stressed the need for a political process leading to an independent Palestinian State. President El-Sisi appreciated France’s support for the Palestinian cause.



Lastly, the leaders reviewed developments in Lebanon and agreed on the necessity of maintaining peace and stability. They explored cooperation among Mediterranean nations to achieve shared prosperity and well-being.
