President El-Sisi and President Macron Explore Historical Alexandria Together


Alexandria: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, visited the historical city of Alexandria. The visit marked a significant moment as both leaders were joined by heads of delegations from various countries attending the inauguration of the new Senghor University headquarters, along with Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo, the Secretary General of the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie.



According to State Information Service Egypt, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the spokesman for the presidency, announced that the two presidents toured the Alexandria Corniche, ending their walk at the entrance of the historic Qaitbay Citadel. During the tour, they received insights into the history of the citadel’s construction from Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy. Additionally, they were briefed on underwater archaeological excavations at the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria by Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed and Dr. Thomas Faucher, who highlighted the region’s archaeological and historical treasures.



Following their tour, President El-Sisi hosted a dinner banquet in honor of President Macron and the accompanying delegation. The event celebrated the inauguration of the university’s new headquarters, where President El-Sisi extended a warm welcome to President Macron. He praised the growing bilateral relations and expressed eagerness to enhance cooperation in culture, tourism, antiquities, and the arts between Egypt and France.



President Macron reciprocated with appreciation for the hospitality, lauding Alexandria as a global center of science and culture. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural ties, reinforcing the strategic partnership between Egypt and France.
