Egypt Sees Surge in Food Exports and Imports Activity

Cairo: The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced the export of 4,149 food consignments totaling 237,000 tons by 1,512 exporting companies over the week ending April 24, 2026. The exports included approximately 760 different food products such as fruits, vegetables, flour, and grain-based products.

According to State Information Service Egypt, fruit exports accounted for 81,000 tons across 39 varieties, with citrus fruits leading at 60,000 tons. Strawberries followed with 15,000 tons, and other fruits totaled 6,000 tons. Vegetable exports reached 52,000 tons across 46 varieties, with potatoes at 20,000 tons, sweet potatoes at 9,000 tons, and other vegetables at 5,000 tons.

Saudi Arabia emerged as the top importer of Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by the US, Syria, the Netherlands, and Sudan, among 192 importing countries. Safaga Port managed the highest number of export consignments at 906, followed by Damietta Port with 810 and Alexandria Port with 687.

In terms of imports, the NFSA reported 2,063 consignments totaling 575,000 tons, managed by 874 companies. The imports included wheat, soybeans, and various oils. Russia led as the top exporter to Egypt during the week, followed by Bulgaria, Ukraine, Indonesia, and the US, among 84 exporting countries.

Alexandria Port received the most incoming consignments with 762 shipments, followed by Cairo International Airport with 456, and Damietta Port with 242. The NFSA issued 1,294 export health certificates to ensure compliance with safety standards and boost confidence in Egyptian exports. Additionally, 1,101 consignments were released under temporary clearance, and 528 under the fast-track system.
