Ain sokhna: Egypt hosted a meeting of the Khartoum Process in Ain Sokhna to discuss how to address the root causes of displacement. The meeting was co-organized by Egypt and Italy, in cooperation with Uganda, the current chair of the process.According to State Information Service Egypt, Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security Ambassador Amr Elsherbiny emphasized the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach to address forced displacement and irregular migration by tackling root causes, primarily conflicts, fragility, and instability. The meeting featured three working sessions discussing the links between conflict, vulnerability, displacement, and mixed migration flows. Participants explored ways to boost international solidarity and promote the concept of shared responsibility while supporting recovery and resilience-building in conflict-affected areas, specifically Sudan and the Horn of Africa.Hosting the event in Egypt underscores Cairo's active role in th e Khartoum Process, especially following its hosting of the second Ministerial Conference in April 2025-which adopted the Cairo Ministerial Declaration-and a thematic meeting in Aswan in December 2025 on regular migration pathways.Comprising 40 member states alongside the African Union and European Union Commissions, the Khartoum Process serves as a political consultation platform on irregular migration from East Africa and the Horn of Africa to the EU.
