Egypt and Qatar Discuss Gaza Plan and Regional Cooperation

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty engaged in a phone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to discuss significant regional matters.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions centered on advancing the implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan, with a particular emphasis on Israeli withdrawals from the Gaza Strip. This dialogue is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional issues of mutual interest.

Spokesperson for Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamim Khallaf highlighted that Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the deepening relations between Egypt and Qatar, noting the continuous development of ties across various levels. He also emphasized the mutual desire to enhance cooperation in different sectors, citing the development project in Alam Al-Roum as a prime example of successful collaboration, and urged for increased Qatari investments in Egypt.

The ministers also discussed a memorandum of understanding in the energy sector scheduled to be signed on January 4. This agreement is anticipated to significantly boost institutional cooperation, support regional energy security, and optimize the potential resources of both nations.

In their exchange on the Gaza Strip, Abdelatty proposed the formation of a temporary Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the enclave's affairs, alongside an international stabilization force. He reiterated Egypt's stance against any actions that could compromise the territorial unity of Palestine and rejected any form of partition, particularly in the West Bank and Gaza.

The talks also covered developments in Yemen, with Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt's unwavering support for Yemen's unity and territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of de-escalation and a comprehensive political solution achieved through Yemeni dialogue, while avoiding unilateral actions to restore security and stability for the Yemeni people.

Both sides agreed on the necessity of maintaining close coordination and consultation to bolster regional stability in the near future.
