Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Ivorian Foreign Minister Nial© Kaba discussed boosting bilateral ties and coordinating diplomatic stances on regional issues. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the African Union.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty congratulated his counterpart on Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara’s re-election. He also extended congratulations to Kaba on assuming her post, highlighting her significant role in advancing the country’s progress during her tenure as minister of economy, planning, and development.
During the discussions, Abdelatty proposed organizing a fourth round of political consultations to build on the 2025 Cairo meetings, emphasizing mutual eagerness to enhance bilateral ties in political and economic sectors. He pointed to the expertise of Egyptian companies in supporting development projects in Africa and their readiness to work with the Ivorian side in priority areas such as infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and health.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s willingness to assist C´te d’Ivoire in establishing a diplomatic studies institute and to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Ivorian foreign ministry and the Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies. He also mentioned the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development’s plans to expand training programs for the Ivorian side.
The discussions also touched on security matters, with Abdelatty stressing the need for comprehensive cooperation to strengthen West African countries’ capabilities in combating terrorism. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to security and stability in the Sahel and West Africa and noted the successful visit to Egypt by the director of the International Academy for Counter-Terrorism.
Both ministers exchanged views on regional issues, including developments in the Sahel, West Africa, and Gaza, and peace efforts in Somalia and Sudan, agreeing to continue bilateral and multilateral coordination.
