Cairo: Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid announced that Egypt is striving to become a regional hub for trade and logistics, serving markets in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Supporting this ambition, the government is focusing on enhancing infrastructure, ports, and regulatory frameworks. Farid met with a DP World delegation, led by Rizwan Soomar, CEO and Managing Director for the Indian Subcontinent, Central Asia, Levant, and Egypt region, to discuss expanding distribution centers and promoting trade integration with Africa.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the government is implementing a strategy to streamline business procedures and remove obstacles for investors. By leveraging DP World's logistics networks across Africa, the aim is to help Egyptian products access new markets. Farid emphasized that specialized meetings will be organized between the company and Egyptian exporters to explore linking local products to continental distribution networks, utilizing the free trade agreements Egypt has signed.
Soomar highlighted that DP World's networks in key African markets, such as Nigeria and South Africa, provide significant opportunities for Egyptian goods to reach a vast number of points of sale. He also mentioned that the company is considering the possibility of initiating new logistics projects within Egypt.
