Egypt Aims to Become Regional Tourism Hub, Says Foreign Minister

Bangkok:Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty announced the government's plans to establish Egypt as a regional tourism hub by enhancing airports, updating the air transport fleet, and increasing connectivity with international markets.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty made these statements during a meeting in Bangkok with William Heinecke, Chairman of Minor International, a major hospitality and restaurant group in the Asia-Pacific region. They discussed expanding the company's investments in Egypt's tourism and hospitality sectors, given the promising opportunities in the Egyptian market.

Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's interest in collaborating with the company to develop vocational and technical training programs to prepare qualified Egyptian personnel for hotel and tourism jobs. This cooperation aims to address workforce needs, attract more tourists, especially from Asia, and improve Egypt's competitiveness as a tourist destination.

The Foreign Minister also welcomed Minor International's plans to increase its presence in Egypt, noting a partnership agreement with an Egyptian company in October 2025, witnessed by the prime minister. This included launching a residential and hotel project on the Red Sea coast.

Abdelatty reiterated the Egyptian government's support for such investments and expressed hope for the diversification of Minor International's investment portfolio in Egypt, extending cooperation to other tourist locations. He highlighted opportunities arising from Egypt's development of new cities, such as the New Capital and New Alamein City.
