Cairo: Within the framework of efforts by the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) to enhance economic and trade relations between Egypt, Indonesia, and Singapore, the Asian Countries Department of ECS organized a significant coordination meeting on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. This meeting brought together Egyptian national bodies and business groups to discuss economic and trade relations with the two countries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Abdel Aziz Al-Sharif, First Undersecretary of the Ministry and Head of ECS, stated that the meeting aimed to explore various avenues for developing relations. The Indonesian and Singaporean sides expressed interest in negotiating a full economic partnership agreement and a free trade agreement with Egypt. The meeting also sought to consult with all participating national parties to build a unified Egyptian vision for these initiatives, considering Egypt's interests and government priorities, such as protecting national industry, increasing exports, and attracting investments.
Al-Sherif emphasized the long-standing strategic and historical relations between Egypt and both countries, which are currently experiencing significant momentum and interest from the political leadership of the two countries. He highlighted the ECS's commitment to supporting cooperation between Egypt, Indonesia, and Singapore.
At the meeting's conclusion, Minister Mr. Sayed Fouad indicated that Egyptian authorities agreed to prepare a comprehensive study in the coming period. This study will include contributions from each concerned authority to reach a unified national position regarding the Indonesian and Singaporean proposals, aiming to facilitate trade. The study will cover all economic, commercial, and technical aspects related to the proposed agreements, ensuring alignment with Egypt's national goals and priorities. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Minister Plenipotentiary of Trade Raji Nabil, Deputy Director of the Asian Countries Department, Commercial Advisor Ahmed Saif Al-Nasr, Second Commercial Secretary Ahmed Adel Ghanem, and Second Commercial Secretary Mrs. Lubna Essam.
